Peabody Energy - Leaders in Education

We are pleased to announce that Kathy Gonio, driver of bus #27, was honored as a Leader in Education by Peabody Energy on March 26, 2014 at the Transportation Department. Kathy was nominated by a parent for her dedication to her students on her bus and the positive impact she has in the workplace.

The program recognizes the work of all staff, both licensed and classified, for their contributions to the schools and district they represent.  Recipients are selected anonymously by a committee comprised of educators, community members and business leaders.  Each recipient is awarded $1,000 and is recognized in a surprise event at their school or building.

You can read more about the program at:  www.peabodyenergyleadersineducation.org

Gifted Education External Review and Recommendations

In December of 2013, the Steamboat Springs School District hired two experts in GT programming to complete a review and audit of the program and to provide the district with recommendations for the future of the K-12 GT program. As part of the process, the consultancy team considered school achievement data listed on the CDE school view site, the proficiency and growth scores for GT identified students, district identification process and district processes for the monitoring of ALP's.   Also considered were the goals of the Administrative Unit concerning GT programming.  Separate survey and focus groups were conducted GT identified students, parents, staff at each school and  administration at each school and the GT coordinators for the district.

The final results of the audit and review can be found here:
